Đối với các anh chị đến từ nước khác bên ngoài Canada, thủ tục nhập cư sẽ tiến hành tại cửa khẩu sân bay nhập cư đầu tiên.
Đối với các anh chị đang ở Canada, đặc biệt có các con đang theo học tại Canada, có 2 cách đều cần phải có hộ chiếu + Visa + phiếu xác nhận thường trú:
- Lái xe ra biên giới và làm tại biên giới, không cần phải hẹn trước.
- Đến văn phòng CIC tại địa phương và phải gọi điện thoại 1-888 242 2100 và phải lấy hẹn trước với văn phòng CIC tại địa phương, cần gọi từ Canada, không thể gọi ngoài Canada, ở một số thành phố, lấy lịch hẹn mất đến 6 tuần. Cần điện thoại, để lấy lịch hẹn gần nhất là ngày nào, cung cấp số hồ sơ của gia đình, số UCI. Khi lấy lịch hẹn, lưu ý chỉ rõ văn phòng CIC gần nơi bạn dự định cư trú nhất.
Riêng trường hợp các gia đình có con đang theo học ở Canada khi đến văn phòng CIC làm thủ tục cần mang theo visa du học + study permit.
Nếu thời gian chờ lâu quá (một số thành phố, thời gian chờ theo lịch hẹn có khi lên đến 6 tuần) thì nên lái xe ra cửa khẩu cho nhanh và thuận tiện
